Myobrace System – Natural Alignment of Teeth and Jaw

Myobrace® System is a preventive pre-orthodontic treatment designed to address the underlying causes of crowded and misaligned teeth. It often eliminates the need for fixed braces or tooth extractions by promoting natural growth and development. The treatment is most suitable for children aged 3 to 15 and involves a series of intraoral appliances worn for 1–2 hours during the day and overnight while sleeping.

What the Myobrace® Treatment Does:

  • Corrects poor oral habits

  • Develops and aligns the jaws

  • Straightens the teeth

  • Optimizes facial development

  • Improves overall health

  • Encourages healthy dietary habits

How Does It Work?

  • By transitioning from mouth breathing to nasal breathing

  • Correcting the tongue’s resting position

  • Shifting to proper swallowing technique

  • Keeping the lips together while at rest

How Does It Work?

Waiting for all permanent teeth to erupt before beginning treatment with fixed braces can unfortunately lead to irreversible damage that affects not only the teeth, but also a child’s overall health and development. Poor myofunctional habits (unhealthy oral habits) are often evident before all permanent teeth are present, which means that addressing the root causes can start much earlier than previously assumed—potentially as early as age three.

The Myobrace® System is designed to correct improper myofunctional habits by teaching children to breathe through their nose, rest their tongue properly against the palate, and swallow correctly. This helps expand the jaws so they develop to their full and proper size—creating enough space for the teeth to erupt naturally straight, often without the need for fixed braces.

The Myobrace® System consists of a series of intraoral appliances worn for one hour daily plus overnight during sleep. These appliances help correct poor oral habits and expand the shape of the dental arches while gently applying force to align the teeth and jaws. Different appliances are used depending on the child’s age and the type of orthodontic issue. Additionally, a patient education program called Myobrace® Activities is used to further correct improper myofunctional habits that lead to abnormal growth and development of the teeth and jaws. The activities are performed twice a day alongside appliance wear and consist of breathing, tongue, swallowing, lip, and cheek exercises.

Treatment Phases Myobrace® treatment begins with habit correction and utilizes a combination of three or more appliances to address the causes of orthodontic problems and align the teeth as they erupt. Treatment can begin as soon as improper myofunctional habits are identified. However, older children may have had more time to develop these habits and incorrect growth patterns, which can require additional effort to achieve successful outcomes. With proper compliance, excellent results can be achieved.
There are typically four phases in Myobrace® treatment:

  1. Habit correction

  2. Arch development

  3. Teeth alignment

  4. Retention

Phase 1 – Habit Correction The first phase of Myobrace® treatment focuses on correcting poor oral habits. This includes teaching the patient to breathe through the nose instead of the mouth, retraining the tongue to rest in the correct position, learning proper swallowing technique, and keeping the lips closed when not eating or speaking. By addressing these harmful habits—often the root cause of crooked teeth and poor jaw development—the child has the best chance to grow the jaws to their full and proper size, allowing the teeth to align naturally and often eliminating the need for fixed braces later on.

Phase 2 – Arch Development Alongside the correction of poor habits, additional arch development is often required to widen the upper jaw, providing enough space for both the teeth and the tongue. For children over the age of 7 with underdeveloped jaws, the use of fixed appliances and techniques—such as Biobloc or the Farrell Bent Wire System™ (BWS™)—may be recommended in combination with the Myobrace® System. These methods help achieve further jaw development and can accelerate the treatment process.

Phase 3 – Teeth Alignment In the phase when the last permanent teeth are erupting, Myobrace® for Teens is used to guide them into their natural position. Due to the nature of the appliance, consistent compliance is essential. Myobrace® appliances must be worn for 1–2 hours during the day and overnight during sleep. Patient cooperation and motivation are key to achieving optimal results.

Depending on the child’s individual needs and level of compliance, final alignment may involve additional treatment with fixed braces. If further alignment is required, fixed orthodontic treatment can still be used—but typically for a shorter duration—and may be combined with Myobrace® for Braces (B-series) to achieve optimal outcomes.

Phase 4 – Retention Retention is the final phase of Myobrace® treatment, aimed at maintaining proper oral habits and often preventing the need for long-term use of permanent retainers or wires. Once fixed braces are removed, a retainer is typically needed to prevent relapse. However, with good compliance and continued practice of correct oral habits, Myobrace® treatment supports more stable orthodontic results and contributes to improved overall health.

Health Benefits Common illnesses that interfere with the use of Myobrace® appliances can significantly delay treatment and prevent successful outcomes. In addition to aligning teeth and jaws and enhancing facial development, Myobrace® pre-orthodontic treatment can offer further health benefits by addressing airway dysfunction and teaching children healthy nutritional habits—helping them reach their full genetic potential.

Nutrition Program The Myobrace® System also includes a series of videos that explain to children the importance of proper nutrition—helping prevent tooth decay, enhance jaw development, and support the natural, healthy growth of teeth. This is especially critical today, as emerging teeth are affected by the high levels of added sugars in processed foods and the widespread consumption of unhealthy diets. To achieve the best possible results with Myobrace® treatment, adopting a healthy diet is strongly recommended.

Myosa® For children who struggle with nasal breathing, treatment tailored to airway-related issues may be necessary. Poor oral habits often contribute to a range of breathing disorders and TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunctions. The Myosa® System is designed to assess, diagnose, and alleviate symptoms while addressing the root causes—promoting more natural function and improving orthodontic outcomes.

The Myosa® System includes sleep appliances suitable for a broad range of patients—from as young as two years old to adults—as well as specialized devices for TMJ disorders, bruxism (teeth grinding), and snoring during sleep.
