Periodontology

TIA dentico, Belgrade - Periodontology

In the field of periodontology, we focus on solving gum-related problems.
Our expert team provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for the treatment of periodontal diseases. Whether it’s gingivitis or more serious periodontitis, we approach each case individually to stop further issues and preserve gum health. We also offer aesthetic gum corrections that significantly contribute to a more beautiful smile.

Periodontology is a branch of dentistry that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases
of the supporting structures of the teeth – the gums, periodontal ligament, root cementum, and alveolar bone. A healthy periodontium is the foundation for preserving natural teeth and is one of the key factors for long-term oral health.

The most common diseases in this field are gingivitis (a superficial inflammation of the gums) and periodontitis (a chronic inflammatory disease that can lead to the loss of tooth support and teeth). Symptoms such as bleeding gums, gum recession, loose teeth, or bad breath require urgent professional evaluation.

Causal Therapy of Periodontal Disease

At our clinic, we perform causal (etiological) therapy for periodontal disease, which involves eliminating the root cause—bacterial biofilm and tartar—to stop the progression of the disease.

The therapy includes:

  • Thorough removal of soft and hard deposits using ultrasonic and manual instruments
  • Mechanical cleaning of periodontal pockets (curettage)
  • Application of local antiseptics and, if necessary, systemic antibiotics
  • Personalized advice on proper oral hygiene and maintaining treatment results

This phase of therapy is the foundation of every successful periodontal treatment and often yields excellent results without the need for surgical procedures in the early stages of the disease.

Flap Surgery

In more severe cases of advanced periodontitis, where periodontal pockets are deep and inaccessible by non-surgical methods, flap surgery is indicated. This procedure involves lifting the gum flap to allow direct access to the tooth root and alveolar bone, enabling precise removal of pathological contents, bone reshaping, and tissue regeneration.
Flap surgery is crucial for preserving teeth in patients with advanced periodontal disease.

Aesthetic Periodontology – Correction of “Gummy Smile”

In addition to functional treatments, we also perform aesthetic corrections of the gums. One of the most common aesthetic procedures is the correction of a “gummy smile”—a condition where too much gum is visible when smiling, affecting facial and smile aesthetics.

Depending on the cause, the correction may include:

  • Gingivectomy – removal of excess gum tissue
  • Osteoplasty – reshaping the bone to achieve a more natural gum contour
  • Sometimes a multidisciplinary approach in collaboration with an orthodontist or maxillofacial surgeon

These procedures are performed under local anesthesia, with minimal recovery time and excellent aesthetic results.

At our clinic, we use modern diagnostic methods and individually tailored treatment protocols to preserve the health of gums and natural teeth. Our goal is the functional and aesthetic rehabilitation of the periodontium, ensuring long-term stability of the achieved results.

Don’t ignore the early signs of problems—periodontal disease that is recognized and treated in time can significantly improve your quality of life and the longevity of your teeth.
